Chris Fravel

Chris “The Drone Geek” Fravel is a drone pilot from the mountains of North Central Pennsylvania, where he has compiled over 2,500 hours in-the-air through the course of 6 years. During that time Chris not only logged a ton of flight time, but he also inundated himself with all-things drones to expand his knowledge of the industry and the players in it. After having one of his first customers refer to him as “a real drone nerd,” Chris decided to take the spirit of the comment and run with it – becoming the self-proclaimed “Drone Geek.” Chris has worked tirelessly to build a following on his YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook and continues that work to this day to share interesting drone content and information with as many people as possible.

Chris is a firm believer that the future will be built on the backs of drones and UAV technology. That being said, he also feels a personal responsibility to share information with drone enthusiasts and the general public alike to perpetuate a deeper understanding of the nuances that come with this fascinating technology and the future they will inevitably bring us.

On-the-Air Before Being In-the-Air

While Chris has dedicated his career to drones starting 6 years ago, he got his start in the professional world as a radio producer and on-air personality, working for Schlesinger Communications, Inc. based out of Lock Haven, Pennsylvania. Chris was the board operator, sports reporter, and eventual morning show host for classic rock station 92.1 WSQV. He also reported news, sports, and weather on sister station AM 1230 WBPZ. This experience in live-media combined with his passion for UAV-technology resulted in the “love child” that is The Drone Geek. Chris draws upon his experience on the radio to create engaging video and audio content for anyone interested in or passionate about drones.

Branding is Better

On top of a 5-year career in radio, Chris also has a background in multi-platform marketing -- anything and everything from billboards and post cards to Google Ads and social media marketing. Chris has worked as a marketer in a variety of industries such as banking, restaurant equipment, motorcycle batteries, HVAC and plumbing – even kiosk software. This wide array of marketing experience has instilled lessons in Chris relating to publicity, KPIs, engagement, and more – all of which play into the work he does today in the UAV technology space.
