India Looks to Become a Drone Superpower

India Looks to Become a Drone Superpower
expouav.com

As the worldwide drone industry could hit $42.8 billion by 2025 (according to the 2020 Drone Industry Insights Report), countries that are not the United States, China, Russia, or Korea are seeing unprecedented opportunities for growth. India, in fact, is working to become a global drone power by 2030, the country is predicted to become the planet's third-largest drone market by 2025.

While anyone nominally aware of drones might be surprised that India could emerge as a drone powerhouse, the Indian military has deployed drones since 1999. However, due to security concerns and other factors, it wasn't until 2018 that Indian pilots could legally fly drones for business purposes.

The Government of India is currently issuing new guidelines that could blow the roof off of the drone market, as well as increase investment in the market. But photography and film-shoot uses aren't the only upsides of a more drone-friendly India. For example, India's agricultural sector touches 58 percent of the country's population. Here, drones could be used to fertilize crops, provide wildfire reporting, and survey difficult terrain.

There is also a healthcare impact, as 67 percent of India's population resides in rural areas, and quicker, more efficient methods of delivering medicines—especially in far-out locales—could be an immeasurable benefit. Drones could also speed up the delivery of time-sensitive transplant organs.

Inventory management of e-commerce businesses could be given over to drones, which could track and scan products at a faster rate than human workers. Another benefit is consistent control of warehouse operations, as COVID-19 can, at times, disrupt the availability of experienced workers. Security and surveillance gigs are obvious, and drones can easily be pivoted to rescue and monitoring uses during earthquakes, floods, and other natural disasters.

As India envisions an increased and active "drone economy," will this nation also be poised to become a drone superpower?
