Amazon Prime finally ready for prime time?
Ad 1 Testing

19 October 2023

At the beginning of 2023, Prime Air appeared to be headed for rough air. Layoffs, safety concerns, and other issues threatened to keep this business dream of Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos on the ground. You can read the January 23 story by The Droning Company here: https://thedroningcompany.com/blog/cutbacks-at-amazon-prime-air- .

How things can change...

Amazon is now promising that, by the end of 2024, its drone delivery air force will get parcels to customers in the U.K., Italy, and the U.S. In England's case, Prime Air is projecting each delivery to take less than an hour,

The workhorse—or workbird—tasked with getting this done is Amazon's new MK30 drone—the result of 18 months of design and testing. The MK30 is said to be quieter and capable of flying longer distances than previous Prime Air models, and it can deliver parcels weighing up to five pounds.

To move Prime Air forward, Amazon has worked with government entities to ensure drone delivery is safe.

"Drone delivery is hundreds of times safer than driving to the store," Amazon Prime Air vice president David Carbon told the BBC, regarding drone deliveries—and the demand for them—in England. "I've never heard anyone say they wouldn't want something faster. What our customers will do is jump on to the Amazon website, they'll select drone delivery if it's available in their area, they'll order their product, and that will then set off the chain of events that goes to our ground system that finds the customer's yard, drops package off where they asked it, and we're out of there."
